A Little About Me

Hi Everyone! My name is Brandon Reed and I am the Founder of NPO.lib, an online membership organization dedicated to teaching the nitty-gritty of running nonprofits effectively. I have been working with small and medium-sized nonprofits in the USA and South Africa for 10 years and founded Reed Community Consulting because I kept seeing newer and smaller organizations struggling to make it past their formative years.

Many times I found this was due to misunderstandings around a nonprofits purpose, governance and evaluation and (for the most part) these problems could have been avoided with a bit of education around nonprofit theory. I help nonprofits implement frameworks and technology, based on sound management practices, to build a strong and healthy organizational structure that will grow as the organization does.

I created NPO.lib as a way to ensure small and medium-sized organizations are able to build their capacity and get an understanding of nonprofit business while not spending thousands of dollars hiring expensive consultants.

When I am not working, I love spending time gardening with my wife and dog or playing volleyball!

My ability to work drastially decreases if I dont have tunes blasting into my brain

I am entirely useless if I have not had at least a plunger of coffee per day

I am a huge game nerd! I love playing video games, role playing games and board games

My dog is my fur child and I love her more than most humans (no offense!)

How can we help you?

3 + 1 =

How does consulting work?
First, contact me via the form to the left to let me know what services you are interested in. Then, I will email you back and set up a time to chat with you to get a better idea of what you need assistance with. After that, I will provide you with a quote based on the amount of time I think the project will take. My consulting is usually based on projects so I can give you a quote before I start work to make sure it fits within your budget. Finally, we agree on what I will deliver, you pay 50% up front and the rest upon delivery!
What kind of clients do you work with?
I typically work with newer small to medium sized nonprofits or individuals interested in starting a nonprofit but have also worked for bigger more established nonprofits too
What is your turn around time on projects?
Turn around time depends on the project, as every nonprofit is different. I provide an estimate of time and costs and come to an agreement with you on that estimate before I begin working. Because I work with many clients and various times, I do try to build a bit of wiggle room into my estimates, in order to ensure that I complete the job on time and to agreed terms.
Do you help with the nonprofit registration process?
Because the registration process to become an acredited nonprofit is different from state to state and country to country, I do not help with the actual registration of a nonprofit. What I do provide is the necessary guidance and framework that all nonprofits are based on. I help identify what the legal requirements are for your location and work with you to ensure that you have the best chance for an approved application.
Can we put you on retainer?
Sure, my hourly retainer rate is $120 per hour or $500 for 5 hours per week. During that time, I am available to chat one on one, answer any questions you have, etc. The retainer guarantees my time is dedicated to you, when you need it.
We don't have the capacity to pay for a consultant but still need help. What can we do?
You can check out NPO.lib, the online membership site for those looking to plan, build and grow a successful nonprofit. We provide online video courses, templates and resources, and an online community of nonprofit professionals to talk with and bounce ideas off of. We also write blog posts every few weeks and will soon start a podcast to discuss all things nonprofit!
